I've done over 50 Rev. D upgrades while working at Radio Shack. Most were upper/lower 32K upgrades.
It was one of my least favorite upgrades.
I would rather do mods on the Tandy 2000 or Model 12 before I upgrade a Rev D CoCo1 motherboard.

Soldering is not an issue. EET is one of my degrees, I even know which end of the soldering iron to hold (and also not catch ;-) ).
