Andrew, Tandy as the saying goes was notoriously cheap... always looking
for ways to maximize margins by driving costs down. Ask the TRS-80 Model I
owners about that. That chip you mentioned could have cost Tandy $.00045
each and a bean counter would have removed it from the proposed spec sheet.
