It really would help if you listed everything you are doing, not just one or two items.
1) Since you are using the Becker NitrOS-9 disk, then you should be using Drivewire set for
"emulator or other TCP device."
2) If you want to boot NitrOS-9 from a floppy mounted on Drivewire, you should use a Becker ROM with
a $00000 offset not $5A000. You can POKE the value $00 into addresses $D938-$D93A if you insist on
using the $5A000 offset.
3) DRIVE #4 will not get a syntax error if you are using VCC 2.01 or later. Also this command ONLY
applies when HDBDOS Translation is OFF.
4) NitrOS-9 boots by default from drive0. So if you mount the disk in DW drive4, enter DRIVE #4 with
Translation OFF, enter DOS, the boot will start but will fail!
5) You want the disk in DW drive0, the $000000 offset ROM, either a clean VCC boot or DRIVE #0 if
Translation OFF and you have been using other DW drives. Then DOS will boot NitrOS-9.
Since you are getting a syntax error and not a function call error, you can't have the Becker HDBDOS
ROM or the RGBDOS ROM active. The only way I get a SN error is when the disk11.rom is active in VCC.
What message do you see when you start VCC? You should see HDB-DOS 1.4 BECKER COCO3 when starting VCC.
