[Coco] RS-232 Pak problems

Do I need to do some wiring to force the RS-232 pak to think there is a connection? i have:

RS232 PAK DB25 -> DB9 ——— TX/RX/GND DB9

Do I need to do something to force the RS232 Pak to see incoming data if I am not providing anything but TX, RX and GND?
