 Thanks for that. I did not see the docs link when I downloaded MAME and honestly did not know MAME had such comprehensive documentation. Based on your heads up, I searched for it an found it here:

There are files including mame.ini and ui.ini in your mame folder (which is possibly at .mame in your home directory).

You can change anything permanently in those files.
