The SP used throughout the Lan Comms PAK refers to Stacked Protocol and not Software Pak as I thought previously.  I managed to find the documentation for the Lan Comms Pak. It can be found at archive.org.

I believe you are correct but I didn't bother with those because neither virtualbox or vmware provide emulated adapters for them.  

The PRO 100 is a very old Intel card.

These cards would be useful if you actually have an old pc with those cards in them.  Then you could dd the provided os9000 disk image onto a physical HDD and try booting up on real hardware rather than in a VM.

Re. network cards.  The Pro100 is a Intel I think and the 8139 and 8900 are Realtek cards
