Yes, it will use a USB power supply, since we all seem to have tons of those around the house anyway.

When I did a USB-to-iPad project a few years ago, I was using a Teensy 2.0 powered off the iPad's "USB" port. I was able to put the Teensy in a slow, low-power mode, and shut off all unnecessary I/O to make it draw less power than what the iPad put out. I don't think there would be any port I could do that with, safely, on a CoCo.
