Well, the keyboard matrix is just a list of switches, so it's just a lookup table. "If A is pressed down, connect X and Y".

I have more "key down, key up" switches in a haunted house I worked on that the CoCo keyboard matrix, and that was all driven by a $9 Arduino clone. :)
