Hi Kip,
My $0.02 worth, All the seagates I bought ended up in the trash, a lot earlier then they should have been. So for me NO seagate's in my house again, ( unless maybe they give them for free...lol ). I do like WesternDigital, the drives I have from then are still sitting and spinning on my backup system, one of them is more then 5 years old.

Hi Bill,
I need to get a couple 2TB hard drives to upgrade my laptop so I have not bid on anything else. There are however a few things that I would like to get if they are still available like the FD-501 disk controllers and some 5 1/2 drives if I can't get mine going again. I haven't blown them out with compressed air yet so I don't know.
Do you know the reliability of Seagate 2TB hard drives? The only refurbished 2TB hard drives on newegg.com are Seagates. I would take this to mean to possibly stay away from Seagate 2TB hard drives!?! I'm leaning toward the 7mm - 9.5mm height drives only as the 15mm height drives will not fit. I mistakenly bought a 2TB 15mm height drive for a friends laptop which did not physically fit inside the laptop. At the time, I was not aware yet of the different heights of the 2.5" hard drives that are available. I looked on newegg.com a day or so ago and found 6 different height 2.5" hard drives ranging from 7mm - 15mm. I guess it has to do with how many platters there are in the drive. I found a 5TB 2.5" hard drive 15mm tall that I sure wish I could fit in my laptop. I could barely afford it if it fit, but it doesn't. According to the research that I did that day, the only hard drives currently available for the 7mm - 9.5mm height range are Seagate.
Have you heard of any manufacturers that make 2.5" hard drives with a height of 9.5mm or less?
