Sure, flexibility is nice.  The MMU is one aspect where it'd probably worth
giving up flexibility just because it's so fundemental to how the software
has to work, and you have the opportunity to align with a large existing
project at that level.  Of course it could be totally optional to have an
MMU at all too.  You can do a lot without one.
