You can change out the opto-isolator chip in the Coco 1 to give it a nice 
speed boost for DW operations.

Hmm, what I said was that if you are running from *disk* you can use
the coco2 images on your coco1. Have you read all my e-mails in this
thread? The difference between coco1 and coco2 builds is exactly in
the DriveWire baud rate, coco1 hardware doesn't run so well or not at
all at the normal coco2 baud rate. The setting in the DW4 server must
reflect the baud rate. So if you have upgraded the bit-banger op-amp
on your CoCo1 so that it can run at CoCo2 speed (57600 baud) you must
choose CoCo2 in the DW4 wizard.

Do you have a disk drive you can use with your CoCo1?
