You can also use real PC joysticks/joypads in Vcc 1.42. In the Joystic menu, just select your joystick from the dropdown.

That feature was somehow lost in the patch for Vcc 1.43b (Becker Port). It has been worked on, but no success yet.

I did, but the game does not respond well to a mouse in VCC.  I can
get the game started with a bit of precision mouse work, but once the game is
going, I cannot control the little guy.  Supposedly you can use a mouse in VCC,
but I have found that I have not always been too successful.
