This is a side effect of Yahoo’s anti spam measures. I don’t know if you were on the list back when Yahoo implemented some new anti-spam policy, but when they did that, they started rejecting all mail that came from a server that was different than the one that was known for the domain. That meant that all the people on Yahoo could no longer receive messages from the list because Yahoo didn’t like seeing the messages getting forwarded through the maltedmedia server. The workaround for this was do masking of the email address with the “via” thing when dealing with members that are subscribed through Yahoo.

It’s not some insidious criminal trying to hack your computer by hijacking the CoCo mailing list.
