I still have four NIB CoCo3s as shipped from Tandy complete with Compuserve pamphlets, etc... 
Not $50, not $5000. :) 
I use to have more and the serious collector does buy occasionally. 
At the peak I had over 500 CoCo3s, under 20 now. 

Getting close to another end of an era at Cloud-9. I thought I would never get rid of over 150 cassette decks, today, I still get requests. They are gone too. 
Are we getting old? :)

I can see an investment when you buy a bundle and can resell the pieces for more money, or if it's something that will go up in value like the Apple 1s ;-) 

Can you imagine the "investment" if we had stocked up on the "new in box" CoCo 3s for $50 each and what we could sell them for now?
