I'm not sure paint is best solution if I had to retrobrite a machine
I would rather try a transparent varnish to protect the surface

Retrobrite is very aggressive, and probably destroy the protection
At the surface of the plastic.

I guess that after a retrobrite the surface of the plastic is porous...

I have no idea about the varnish I would use but I would try this solution

My big problem with painting plastic is that it often does not hold up
and can get Tacky/Sticky. I suppose with proper prep and painting and
maybe some type of sealant, it might work ok.
