Yes. If it was originally painted, paint it to restore it.

I have an old CoCo1 and TRS-80 Model 1 that I painted almost 20 years 
ago. Still looks like new.

I don't use these so the paint hasn't worn away.

I should say, I would only paint something where my hands don't touch. A 
CoCo...no. The Amiga 4000 front panel...yes.
