Googlegroups messages are so miss-formatted by default that I added about 
2 years back a filter rule in mailfilter that nukes those nearly 
unreadable messages from the server before fetchmail can download them. It 
can be fixed, but its a PITA for the average user to figure it out.  They 
at google are firmly in the more html the better camp so its not open for 
discussion with them.  Take it or leave it, learn to adjust the defaults, 
or don't use googlegrps.
