Nick, try playing around with your color sets in Windows. If there's a "classic" set, try that.

I've now got the MESS UI. Took a bit more fiddling around but I finally 
got it to a "VCC-like" state.

MESS is good if you want a general emulator for doing multiple computers.

I only want the CoCo so it feels "over-bloated" for my needs.

I did the ultimate test... I did a CLS7.

It was also the wrong color!

It was the same as VCC! It cleared the screen blue instead of Magenta (I 
set it to RGB).

Ok, this is good and bad. It means VCC is not the fault... so what is? 
What's Windows 8.1 doing?
