That is cool. SO many Pi projects use an Arduino in conjunction just to read I/O because, I assume, the non-realtime nature of Linux gets in the way. I saw an arcade controller solution, using the Pi I/O pins, that had to poll to read them, chewing up a small percentage of CPU time.
