Just make sure you never, ever run bi-directional buses down through any 
level of instantiation in your design other than the top level (ie. I/O 
pins). Not only will it cause issues with synthesis, it will be an absolute 
headache in your design and make it all-but-impossible for someone else to 
use your components in their design.

Never. Ever.
