That is on the mark!

Radio Shack took pride in being the place to go for technology as well as
a source for the do-it-yourself types and hobbyists. And it was the first
store chain to carry a personal computer. It was the place to go to
see/buy the latest gadgets. Remember the PC-1?

But when they moved to competing with the stores like Best Buy, they gave
up on the markets that make up their customer base. There isn't a
compelling reason to return to their stores.
