Further thinking on this Tim, since I interpret the above statement to
mean it will not run on your box;

If you have my "vfy" on your coco (get it the same place below), the crc
of the downloaded file, installed on your coco3, should be:

{t2|08}/X0/NITROS9/6309L3:vfy -x vim
Length of file: $00001B01

Module found at offset $00000000 in this file
Header for : vim
Header parity : $32 (good)
Module size : $1B01
Edition : $58
Ty/La At/Rv : $11 $81
Program module, 6809 object, Re-enterable, R/O
Exec. off : $0017
Data Size : $BFF3
Module CRC is : $270842 (good)

Bytes read : $00001B01

The ident util can also show you the crc, but if the memory has been
adjusted, that will change. vfy can adjust the memory and fix the crc in
one swell foop. I'd verify it had a good crc before I adjusted it.

But never ever forget that windows likes to filter what it downloads,
"translating" the line ends in the file even if YOU know its binary and
should not be so massaged. My theory is that it is one of the ways
windows discourages what they think is piracy, by making sure the
downloads you do with it, don't work on the original platforms they came
from, and are going to. Suspect exactly that if the file after
downloading is not EXACTLY that $1B01 (6913 bytes in decimal) long, and of
course the crc will be burnt toast.

Frankly, I'll go get a 6 pack and celebrate when windows exhales its last
breath. If I'm still inhaling regularly that is. ;-)

OTOH, I just checked the headers of your message, and that does resemble a
linux install. So maybe I am barking at the moon? Dunno. Plz advise.

Thanks Tim.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
