I'd call that an ooops. We have had directory sorters of several ilks for
20 years or more. There was a dirsort, that had some options, I had a
hand in dsort (mostly trash cleanup where the original could leave
garbage, and multivue's own gsort, which had the same problem of not doing
a very good job of cleaning up.
Dsort, and the dropin replacement for MV's gsort are available on my web
page below. Both will also run from the command line.
