Nick, the DE-1 board has an expansion header on it. Th e trick would be 
to make an I/O connector board for that, and make any necessary mods to 
the existing FPGA core to support the I/O port board. The DE-1 board is as good a ready to go board as any right now, especially since several people are using it.
