Steve,

I had the same pain with a Chronos Series 7 Samsung Notebook (despite it has
a huge touchpad recognizing "smart phone gestures"), but I got somehow used
to it after updating from 8.0 pro to 8.1 pro and installing the free & open
source (but great ;-)) classicshell (http://www.classicshell.net/), as
recommended by others here before. Other windows settings (sometimes
somewhat difficult to find) improve the look and feel further.
