[Coco] Emulating a 1980 4K CoCo on PC

this is mostly directed to Allen, but feel free to chime in if you have 
seen this before.

i am pretty sure i have followed the instructions to install XRoar on my 
laptop. and have placed files bas10.rom and xroar.conf (as from your 
instructions) in the same folder as each of the 32k and 64k flavors of 
version 0.32.

though the drop down machine menu shows an new entry called Tandy CoCo 
4K which is selected and even the keyboard map is coco layout.

the stderr file shows...
Loading ROM: ./bas10.rom
     BASIC CRC = 0x7d1f9515

however all i get is a "checkerboard" with 2 rows of 8 columns, with no 
cursor flashes.

any ideas?
