[Coco] OT: Merry XMAS

I agree 100% with Art. Celebrate the season the way it makes the most sense
to you. I happen to be a Christian, but I love to hear about other
religions as well, and am not intimidated by someone who likes to discuss
their views. I do think it's sad that schools now, at least in Minnesota,
forbid the mention of Christmas or any other religious references in the
classroom. Halloween can no longer be celebrated because some types of
masks or costumes may be offensive to someone's personal religion. We are
creating a sanitized environment. I don't think that is healthy. Have open
discussions about religions and holidays. Celebrate all of them to increase
our cultural understanding. Don't hide them all. Allow individual
expression as long as it is positive and not denigrating someone else.

Sorry. Now off my soapbox.

Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, happy holidays, happy new year. Keep
cocoing !!!

I have to raise a dissenting voice here, and I hope no one takes offense.
To me, Christmas is not about Christ, because those are not my religious
beliefs. I nevertheless enjoy the generous spirit of the season, and its
embodiment in such nonreligious displays as Christmas trees, wreaths, Santa
Claus, and so forth. I like nonreligious Christmas songs like Chestnuts
Roasting On An Open fire, Let It Snow, and many others. Sure, a lot of it
is commercialized, but so what? What's the harm in that? So is
Thanksgiving (to a lesser extent), and I don't hear a lot of complaining
that we're losing sight of the fact that Thanksgiving is about Pilgrims and
Native Americans coming together in peace. Those who want to appreciate
and celebrate Christmas in terms of Christ, by all means do so, while
refraining from attempting to impose your religious beliefs on others. But
don't begrudge the rest of us from enjoying the holiday in our own way.

Merry Christmas.
