here's what I do:

To quickly browse the subjects by date (on my windows dumb phone - it's not 
really smart ;-)) and read just what i'm interested in I use

http://five.pairlist.net/pipermail/coco/

e.g. for October 2013:

http://five.pairlist.net/pipermail/coco/2013-October/date.html

If I really feel the need to comment, I use

http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hardware.tandy.coco

Selecting "On the web, using frames and threads" will bring me to 

http://news.gmane.org/gmane.comp.hardware.tandy.coco

There I can browse by thread and use the --Action-- drop-down menu 
to "Followup".

That's somewhat less comfortable than using Thunderbird, but I don't have 
that installed on all computers I use.
