Allen,
Congratulations! I didn't know you had done that either. Heck, I didn't
even know the Coco could talk directly to midi.
Now to get a zillion slot Multipak so I can plug all this up together on my
Coco 3!
Has anyone made the 8-slot MultiPak yet? If so, I'd like to buy a PCB from
you so I can build my own. Thanks in advance.
Kip

Subject: [Coco] "Did I do that?"

At last weekend's CoCoFEST!, I picked up a bundle of stuff that included a
Rulaford Research CoCo MIDI hardware interface and some software. This was
sent off to Rogelio, and he received it today. When he wrote to let me know
he had it, he mentioned that he had flipped through all the documents that
came with it and said he didn't realize I wrote the technical manual for the
MIDI pak.

And I didn't either.

He sent me some photos, and it has slowly returned to me. I had ordered CoCo
MIDI Pro and a Casio CZ-101 Librarian from Rulaford, and that got me in
touch with Cecil Houk about MIDI stuff. I rewrote the interface for the
Casio app, and wrote a new one for the Kawai K1 synthesizer. I guess this is
what let me to learning how the hardware worked.

In the special thanks, I thank Lester Hands for providing the original
documentation on using the MIDI pak, and a friend of mine, Mark Thomas, who
looked up the details of the MC6850 ACIA chip that it used. In the document,
I provided examples of using the pak from BASIC and assembly, including a
small BASIC loader that gave two routines that could be used for reading and
writing data in assembly.

And I had completely forgotten I did that.

Thanks, Rogelio!
