Going back to the gist of the results of the trademark infringement case 
that Microware brought against Apple and lost, the Apple OS was OS9 (no 
hyphen) which is somehow considered sufficiently different from OS-9 to 
not be confusing.  In any case I have heard of a port of OS-9/68k for 
68k based Macs which makes things even more confusing.
