There were several articles in Rainbow as well as some software on RTTY and Ham. I'm sure there was in other rags as well.
Check through the old mags. I'm pretty sure the Rainbows (at least) mention it on the cover as well.

Looks like it is standard RS-232 from the manual...  but a brief search
around the web, I think it required a software package to work.  Looking
at the scematic, the only "active" pins are 2,3 and 20.  The others are
either tied HI or Low.  Now my guess is that the software package did
the actual decoding/encoding of the data stream that is sent to this
port.
