I don't think anyone here is under any illusion that a Coco-in-a-joystick
is even remotely commercially viable in the way that the C64 version was.
The best we can hope is a hobbyist design that breaks even selling a few
dozen units to enthusiasts who can afford it. Anything beyond that is, and
always will be, a pipe dream.

I think you're right Mark. That's why I suggested (mainly to Gary!) that a more generic FPGA board targeted at computer emulation would be a more practical product. It would serve no only as a development board but be good as a short run board for many custom projects. Sort of a pared down DE-1 board, with some features removed, maybe a few others (like A/D converters for analog joysticks?) added. I do recall the DE-1 had some unnecessary (for computer emulation) features. Such a board would make a custom micro controller easy to accomplish. Could be enough demand to make quantity production possible.
