[Coco] MIDI with drivewire 4

Bob,
If you are trying to use Ultimuse 3, Sound Chaser, or any other OS9 Midi program, as Aaron replied, just use the /MIDI descriptor supplied in the Nitro DW distros, as most Midi software in OS9 is coded for the /MIDI driver or to use the Coco Midi Pak & Bitbanger directly (they need no driver). Though there is a driver available called /midi that uses the serial port. It's part of the "MidiSft" package I think. Do not use this driver for drivewire.

In Ultimuse:
Get the program going by creating or loading a song. I'm pretty sure there's alos a selection to "Enter Score Screen" directly without creating a file or loading. Once you get to the main screen, hit "m", then "m" again. This goes to the "Midi Menu" then to the "Midi Modes" submenu. Deselect "Serial" (important) and select "/Midi device".
Hit <enter> twice to exit the menus and you are now in "Driveiwre Midi" mode. Load or create a song and hit "p" to play.

In Sound Chaser:
Start the program, once SC is running, hit "o", got to "Set Midi Out Drv", then "Use Drivewire 4 Midi Driver".
You will then see a display of your DW Midi options. Select the option by hitting the number. If you are using Windows, the MS Wavetable Synth sounds the best.
Set your music dir in "File", "Change Music Dir" and just hit "p" on any song that says "Lyra" or "Ultimuse 3" on the status bar at the bottom. I think I also included a few ".mid" files to play around with on the distro. DriveWire Midi should be set as default from the start if it's detected, The "DW" utility needs to be in the CMDS dir. This file has to be present to change the Drivewire synths. It is in the CMDS on the Nitro dw distros.

>From HDBDOS to run "Lyra" for Drivewire, You need Lyra.2.87 for HDBDOS 1.1, or Lyra 2.88 for HDBDOS 1.4. Both versions of Lyra are available from my site as well as Ultimuse 3 and Sound Chaser 1.1 beta.
Use DRIVEON to access the 0-3 virtual floppies, or DRIVEOFF to use the real 0-3 floppies.
Once Lyra is running, Click "MIDI", you should see "Serial Port" at the bottom. You must go to this twice and click till it says "Drivewire 4"..... Load and play
Lyra will access the 256 virtual drives from "FILE" / "SET DRIVE". If you have real floppies on, always start at no lower than drive 4 unless you're loading from a real floppy. When you're in the "LOAD" directory listing, you can change drives by clicking "increase" & "decrease"

Hope this helps

Subject: [Coco] MIDI with drivewire 4

Hello all,

I haven't played with drivewire for some time, so today I downloaded the DW4
package.

Question: How do I use the MIDI part of the DW server from OS9 on my Coco3? Is
there a special driver/descriptor?

Regards, Bob Devries
