I still have a couple, even one of those 3.5 & 5.25 combo's.  I must have 
worn out the heads on at least 4 of the Tandon 100-4 drives.  Full height 
but good drives 20 years ago.

That was the general idea.  ;-)  Just never write to a 40 track disk 
sitting in an 80 track drive, instant trash.
