As for one having a DE1....it is not way too big to fit in a CoCo. There is also a CoCo I/O board. I don't have one but saw it at the ChicagoFest this year.

Can't speak for Xilinx as learning one of these dev tools is enough for me. :) Altera supports other platforms than Windoze. Check it out(try Google), spend a winter or summer learning the tool. The windoze version is a 2.7GB download, compressed self extracting. Takes ~30 minutes on DuoCore just to install. Worth it? PowerTools is where it is at........

The Cloud-9 team of Boisy, myself and newly added team member Aaron Wolfe will be attending VCF Southwest in a month, in Arlington TX. If all goes as planned, we will get to meet Gary Becker as he will be demoing several of his designs at VCF.

No doubt capable, but way too big to hide in a cc3 unless the whole coco 
was emulated.

Would I have to run the development system on windows?  If yes, no deal.

For about 90 bucks and some time, that looks like a usable gizmo.  IIRC, 
the development stuff for xilinx is nearly free, so that, and custom made 
breakout cables might add a lot of functionality to a coco3.
