I've been working on locating and processing scans of all the Rainbows
for quite a while.  I try to find the highest quality scan, and then I
use Acrobat to reduce size and OCR them.  I've generally been able to
turn the ~300MB files into ~30MB files without losing readability. The
OCR isn't perfect by any means, usually not good enough to copy and
paste code listings or anything like that, but it does work well
enough that you can search for keywords.

The processed files are here:

Even better, you can use the search function on that same site to
search the contents of not only the Rainbow but also several other
magazines and books/manuals.  It isn't perfect, but usually gives you
an idea of where to look next if nothing else.

I have been uploading the processed files to malted media as well,
some of them made it into the MAGS folder with the other Rainbow
scans, some didn't, and some I haven't remembered to upload yet.

I can't seem to find Dec. 1988 and about half of 1989 anywhere, the
.zips on malted media seem to be corrupt for most of 1989.  If anybody
has these, I'd love to get a copy and will make them available as the
others are.
