Linux isn't that hard, from a 74 year old.  Ubuntu will be out with a fresh 
issue in about a week, 9.04.  You might want to give it a shot.  Start with 
the livecd version, which will be very slow, but it will give you an idea what 
its all about without touching your winderz box's drives.
