I have absolutely no doubt that there's plenty of people making money just 
buying and re-selling on eBay - both within and outside the "retro scene".

I'm sure if you researched your chosen market and were patient enough to 
wait for your low bids to win, and then subsequently re-list as "Buy It 
Now", you'd be able to eke out a profit of sorts. But it would be a 
time-consuming and rather tedious way to earn a living.

Then again, so would coding web sites or java programming! :)
