I would imagine that for a parallel port IDE to work, the port would need to 
be either a full both-way port (I/E. both read *and* write capability), 
and/or have all the handshaking lines of the PC's parallel port.

Sadly this leaves a number of parallel port implementations on the coco out 
of the running, including the Disto 4-in-1 that I have. These units have 
only write capability on the data bus, and the barest essentials of 
handshaking.
