Thanks, Robert.  I'll be really interested in what you might come up
with.  I wonder how difficult it would be to add support for scroll
wheels.  I hated those things when they first came out -- I think the
first one I played with had too weak a spring for the middle-button
function, so I found it very difficult to scroll without doing
unintended middle-button clicks -- but by now I've gotten to like them.

I understand and agree.  But as you noted in your original post, others
do sometimes upload things other than that which is confirmed freely
distributable.  Establishing a system that includes tags for other types
might be useful in contexts other than your specific library.  And for
some purposes, PD vs OS vs SW might matter.  Also, if somebody sends you
something clearly marked CS, you can quickly decide how to deal with it.

I wonder how much actual Public Domain stuff you will find.  I know
there were disk subscription services that distributed "PD" stuff.  I
never subscribed to those, so I really don't know how much of that was
really PD, how much was shareware, how much was ??.  If there is a bunch
of real PD stuff, I'd love to get to see it all.  Let me know if I can help.
