Tried that several times.  

As I said, I'm familier with how named pipes are supposed to work, at least
surficially.  My problem is that these named pipes aren't doing that, so
there is either a trick, or the code is broken.  Only someone who has used
them in the past can tell me.

I was hoping a lurker might see the message that they missed last week.
