This still doesn't guarantee enough friction between the original gear plus  
metal splints, and the shaft itself.  Unless you under-drill the shaft  holes 
and have a really hard press fit of the metal discs onto the shaft --  ugh!

This  'gear' is only 1/4" wide & about 5/16th" in diameter, so this isn't  
practical.


Unless, maybe if 3 of your grandparents were Swiss :-)  Gene is right,  tho 
-- little pinion gear is way too small for this fix.  --Mike K.
