You have 3 options to use VDK files:
1) Make a disk, using vcopy.exe in ms-dos. The disk should first be
formatted in NitrOS9 as a 40 tracks SSDD (for 180k images) You can get
vcopy.exe from the Tools section under Dragon Downloads (in
www.dragon-archive.co.uk)

2) Use wimgtool.exe (windows) or imgtool.exe (dos) to extract files from the
vdk image. These tools are included in the MESS emulator download package (
www.mess.org).

3) My preferred option - convert the vdk file to a standard DSK image: Open
the vdk image file with a hex editor, and delete the extra header bytes at
the beginning of the file, so that the remaining file size is exactly 184320
bytes = 180k (or 368640 bytes for 360k VDK images). If the original file
size is 184344 - you need to delete the first 24 bytes. Save the new file as
DSK file, which you can now treat with your usual DSK image tools.
