Glad I asked; usually it's buy first, ask questions later. ;)
I wasn't considering flash because of speed; the TC^3 is faster than I dreamed it could be. I found a better solution for drive noise anyway (Barracuda drives make only slightly less noise than a router). i moved the drive enclosure under the desk and piled laundry on top of it.

Not supportted on the TC^3. I'm sure you could get an adapter interface
but for 8MB...... Electrically they are not the same.
