Thanks - while there is some info there - it doesn't list what the
voltage levels are for the 9 pin input should be.

A quick Google search found some hits about problems with the 1080. One 
interesting site  http://staff.washington.edu/rrcc/uwweb/  has circuit 
diagrams and troubleshooting comments.
