Can't speak for Disk basic disks, but cirtanly for OS-9/NitrOS disks, as 
long as you set the fdparms correctly, then you should be able to use 
toolshed's os9 dir etc to read the raw device, just like you would a 
disk image. Note I have only done this with Dragon OS-9/NitrOS disks, 
but the format is the same so I shouldn't see a problem reading the CoCo 
ones. You may be able to do the same with the disk basic reader from 
toolshed also.

How you set this up may of course depend on what Linux distribution you 
are using (SuSE 8.2 here). Feel free to ask if you want help with this.
