M. A. D. Software has collected all sorts of computer-related items over the
years, and we need to get rid of many of them now. Many of these items are
for use on a single type of vintage computer, while others can be used in
any ISA, EISA or Microchannel system, but such systems are not in common use
any more either.
We realise that these items are of interest to a limited number of people,
which is why we are providing a last chance to get the items listed below.
If you see something you want ACT NOW. If these items are still hanging
around in a few months, they will be going into the trash or to a metals
recycler. Because this is a clear-out, your cost is essentially just the
estimated shipping price based on the weight of the item.
Some items have photographs, which may help you figure out what the item is,
because we don't know what some items do or what computer they were meant
for. For these mystery items, hopefully the photograph plus the description
of markings we found on the thing will help you decide if it is something
that you are looking for.
NOTICE: All items are considered "AS IS" and there are no returns, no
support and no refunds.

All payments are in US Dollars by money order (postal money orders are
fine), or check on a US bank in US Dollars. Sorry, no credit cards on these

accept cash if you must, but we are not responsible if cash sent through the
mail fails to safely arrive at our P.O. Box.
NOTICE: Because the charges including transaction charges routinely exceed
the cost of many of the items offered here, electronic payment methods (like
PayPal) are not available.
Shipping charges to USA destinations are INCLUDED for the items below, and
there is a minimum pre-tax postage charge of $4.50 per order for garage sale
items. That is, if all the garage sale items that you want to buy total up
to less than $4.50, the order will cost $4.50 (before any tax).
Shipping charges to other countries are additional and must be computed for
each destination based on the total items involved. Be sure to tell us where
you are outside the US when reserving items so we can give you the final
price.
We ship using whatever method we deem appropriate, usually via USPS (except
for large/heavy items). If you want some specific method used, please
specify what you want and we will figure out what the cost will be.
If your shipping address is in Texas, you must also pay state sales tax. Tax
rate is 8.25%.

#8010 Original IBM PC Serial/Parallel Adapter (ISA)

#8011 Tandy Serial/Parallel Adapter (870-9643) (ISA). This is the original
design, which was meant to be a direct (but cost-reduced) version of the IBM
Serial/Parallel adapter, including the extra baud rate clock used to support
split baud rates (by the 1980s, this was used only by six people in France
and nobody else). Anyway, it is a pretty good card and the 16540 UART is
socketed so you can replace it easily with a 16550 (or higher) UART to
operate these cards at high baud rates under multi-user/multi-task
environments.

#8012 Tandy Serial/Parallel Adapter (870-9643), second revision. The
original design cut one corner too many, in that you could not disable
interrupts if you didn't want to waste one on a parallel port that you
didn't plan to use. The original IBM card (that the original Tandy card was
to be a copy of) could do this, by removing a socketed shunt, instead of
turning it to its alternate socketed position. The possibility of someone
just removing the shunt entirely on the IBM design never occurred to the
hardware engineer who was copying it for the Tandy design, so the Tandy
design had a jumper on to be one IRQ and a different IRQ if the jumper was
off.
This revision adds four more jumpers that allow the interrupts to be
selected or disabled. The factory also didn't include the second baud rate
generator on the second revison models, figuring the six guys in France had
bought their cards now and no one else needed split baud rates. Still, they
kept the socket, and support parts are still there, so you can always put
the missing part back in if you really need this feature. (I used it exactly
once, to see if it worked.)
Like the original the 16450 UART is socketed and you can replace it with a
16550 or better UART.

#13003 P-CAD Software Security Device, with PC-CAPS module.
An early copy-protection system, it was connected to a parallel printer port
in line with a printer (if you had one), and certain software packages would
quiz the box to see if you were authorized to run their software or not. A
software package was distributed on diskettes and included one of the
modules, of which you could insert several into the box. Without the
security module, the software would not function.
Several of the CAD and other engineering software program companies used
schemes like this, but the "dongles" became more and more unpopular.
Does not include the power adapter that is apparently required, marked as
needing 9VDC. No documentation. Serial numbers are 12562 and 15673. 2
