Hi,

	I think it is also important because it lets the recorders auto level 
control get stabilized before the IMPORTANT data starts. Not to mention 
having the tape get up to speed. If you are using a portable recorder 
try using batteries (to avoid any AC hum). I use a stereo tape deck.
