ISTR, to read CD-RW you need a 30x drive or better.
It has not so much to do with speed, as some 24x but
not others, will also read CD-RWs; it has to do with
the time-line, ie, RW technology became available
at about the same time as 24/30x drives (cf multi-
read vs multisession).  Multisession drives should
read CD-R if they're 4x or better.
