I found a C compiler (MicroC) that targets the 6809 CPU.  It's included in 
a commercially-sold IDE called MicroIDE.  I have not yet tried to integrate 
this into Portal-9.  Also, one would have to download the MicroC/IDE 
package which is an IDE itself that has the C compiler in it, but limits 
you to 500 lines of source.  I'll know more soon.

HLA 1.62 works great and the look and feel is very nice.  The author is 
also working on HLA 2 at the same time he fixes small bug reports in HLA 
1.x and adds to the HLA stdlib on occasion.
